Competing as an athlete is an avenue of self-actualization. It helps us grow to be our best, healthiest, and happiest selves. Through sport, we grow mentally and physically stronger, develop relationships, challenge and set goals for ourselves, and discover the joys and rewards of hard work. There are no losses--just learning experiences.
Girls participate in sports, but studies show that girls begin to walk away from sports starting in middle school. Sometimes, it’s because they’re self-conscious or afraid of failure. Sometimes, it’s because being an athlete conflicts with the idea of what is “feminine.” Whatever the reason, girls begin to drop out of sports as they grow up. The Tuff Gurlz Foundation envisions a world where more girls embrace sport and athleticism not just as children but as part of their identity well into adulthood.
Our Mission is to promote young women’s wellness, confidence, and happiness through participation in BMX Racing and other action sports, instruction in goal setting, peer mentoring, and sharing a love of being active. To achieve our mission, we provide opportunities for athletes to interact, build mutual confidence, and to support one another in their chosen sports.
OUR VISION
OUR MISSION
We are three women who were united first in friendship through BMX racing. We are parents, athletes and coaches. But what started as a friendship has grown into a passion and a mission to see girls reap the benefits of sports--not just through childhood, but for a lifetime.
Tuff Gurlz events and activities are made possible by the generous support of sponsors and folks like you. We host summits, provide instruction in goal setting and other wellness skills, and stay in contact with our athletes. Your support helps us reach out and make a difference for young women everywhere.
